Gettings things done with Evernote

At the centre of just about every employees personal productivity system are lists. There are a lot of different kinds of lists besides your task or to-do list that can help you be more productive. Lists in general are powerful tools that constantly grow. They are the most effective means of extending our memories past the 7 or so things we can keep in our mind at any given time.

Whilst the trusty post it note can be great for your day to day task list, knowledge workers often need a way to free up their mind from the hassles of the job by doing an info-dump so their head is clear enough to create instead of worry. The average knowledge worker has access to an increasingly large set of information resources. Accessing information where and when they need it is key. About two years ago frustrated at the size of the pages on my day planner I did some research and discovered Evernote.

Evernote is an application that makes it easy to remember things big and small from your notable life using your computer, phone, and the web. There are few applications that do a better job of collecting information in front of the computer screen or on-the-go than Evernote. The service simply helps you organise and remember things and then access them from anywhere. You can take pictures of your receipts for easy organisation or save key info while you browse. For example,  if I see a particular website layout or button I like I bookmark the page, take a screen grab and make a note of it.

In an era of ubiquitous broadband, smart phones, and users who manage multiple computers and devices, it just makes sense to use an application like Evernote. Getting into the habit of always capturing and processing ideas as they occur has changed how I approach a task. I always have a starting point from information I’ve previously stored in Evernote which immediately makes me more productive. I recommend you give this secure reliable service  a try today.  And let me know how you get on!

    Hi,

I’m Josh from Springpad. Since I saw that you were posting about your experience using Evernote, I thought I’d let you know about Springpad (http://springpadit.com) which is similar to Evernote in that you can upload any notes or clip websites and access all your stuff online or on your phone. But, we take it a step further by putting all the info you store to work for you in our free apps. For example, you can save recipes from any website and then have them all neatly organized in your recipe box (http://springpadit.com/appdirectory/aboutapp/recipebox) and then use our free meal planner app to create a dinner plan and a complete list of ingredients. You can also keep track of all your wine notes (http://springpadit.com/appdirectory/aboutapp/winenotebook), keep a list of restaurants you want to try (http://springpadit.com/appdirectory/aboutapp/restauranttracker) or easily store all your travel plans like confirmation numbers, maps, places to go, etc (http://springpadit.com/appdirectory/aboutapp/tripplanner). You can set alarms to send emails or text reminders. Other great apps include a budget tracker, a meeting notebook, a holiday gift planner, a Christmas card log, a date night planner, and other useful tools to help people get organized. Would love to get your feedback!
